GRID Technology
Prisma Electronics completed the design and installation phases of the GRID Technology System at the Technological Education Institute (TEI) of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace. The project successfully concluded with the installation of a super-computer that is directly connected to the CERN laboratories that process the Accelerator’s data gathered from the discovery and confirmation of the Higgs particle.
The GRID system has a data storage capacity of 432 TB, 1152 cores, administration 10 nodes and a 10Gbps network connection speed. The Kavala branch of the TEI is the second installation in northern Greece (following Thessaloniki) of a GRID super-computing system connected to the CERN research center. At a reception marking the project’s completion, CERN IT Director Hemmer and CERN’s Greek Representative Mr. Evangelos Gazis were joined by students and members of the TEI administration for a presentation of the Laboratory’s new capabilities and the possibilities for external synergies with public and private foundations and commercial enterprises.
